Course Description
Diabetes is a major public health concern. According to the CDC, 20.8 million people—7 percent of the population—have diabetes. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90-95 percent of these cases. While the management of gestational diabetes mellitus has been a known professional liability issue, the management of type 2 diabetes is an emerging concern. Malpractice allegations associated with diabetes include failure to diagnose, improper performance (e.g., treatment errors in basic diabetic care), failure to monitor, and failure to communicate. Using closed NORCAL claims and American Diabetes Association practice guidelines, this course examines professional liability exposures related to the management of type 2 diabetes and its comorbidities.Who Should Take This Course
